Per quanto mi riguarda se ne va una persona orrenda.

Detta così sembra una frase buttata lì
Forse dovresti argomentare meglio la tua opinione, così si fa fatica a commentare.

Un po' come dire che anche Mussolini ha fatto delle cose buone...

Mi rendo conto che va argomentata (cosa che mi riservo di fare oggi), ma per aprire la discussione diciamo che, insieme a Reagan, è stata la testa di ponte di un iperliberismo che ha distrutto il valore del lavoro come elemento - al pari di altri - di costruzione e redistribuzione della ricchezza, raso al suolo di conseguenza ogni ascensore sociale, trasformato la società in un gigantesco supermercato riservato ai ricchi, nel quale solo il denaro chiama altro denaro, e in ultima analisi gettato le basi della situazione attuale. Che non è, qualora ci fosse ancora bisogno di dirlo, una semplice crisi economica, ma un arretramento dell'Occidente europeo a modelli e rapporti di forza sociali di stampo ottocentesco: decimazione della classe media e conseguente riduzione tendente a zero del suo peso sociopolitico, e una spaccatura sempre più netta fra una crescente e generalizzata massa in condizioni economiche di sopravvivenza o indigenza e una élite economico - finanziaria nelle cui mani si concentra la ricchezza.

Non argomento perché c'è ben poco da argomentare. La repressione sindacale per me è una delle cose meno gravi fatte dalla Thatcher. Il peggio sono state le sue scelte in campo economico e culturale.
Andrebbe anche smontato il fatto che sia da celebrare come donna che si è fatta da sé visto che non era ne proveniente da una classe bassa, ne la prima donna a guidare un grande paese democratico e non ha avuto neppure lo svantaggio di nascerere in un paese misogino come molte di coloro che l'hanno preceduta. Indira Ghandi ha governato l'India quindici anni prima nonostante fosse donna e appartenente a una minoranza religiosa in un paese diviso in caste.

Sottoscrivo in toto. Quanto alle donne al potere citerei anche, per restare nello stesso periodo, Golda Meir in Israele. E per dare un altro po' di sale alla conversazione aggiungerei anche, giusto per fare giustizia di qualche luogo comune, che fatti alla mano nelle leadership femminili non vedo traccia di alcun valore aggiunto né di diversità rispetto a quelle maschili. Il potere e il suo esercizio sono ciò che sono, e per cambiarne modalità e obiettivi temo serva qualcosa in più di una gonna al posto di un paio di pantaloni.

There's something distinctively creepy - in a Roman sort of way - about this mandated ritual that our political leaders must be heralded and consecrated as saints upon death. This is accomplished by this baseless moral precept that it is gauche or worse to balance the gushing praise for them upon death with valid criticisms. There is absolutely nothing wrong with loathing Margaret Thatcher or any other person with political influence and power based upon perceived bad acts, and that doesn't change simply because they die. If anything, it becomes more compelling to commemorate those bad acts upon death as the only antidote against a society erecting a false and jingoistically self-serving history.
