Bridge Over Troubled Water è un album davvero piacevole; sonorità rilassanti e accattivanti, melodie vocali deliziose, decisamente uno dei miei preferiti fra tutti quelli ascoltati finora. Difficile scegliere una top (anche perchè la linea melodica semplicistica fa sì che alcune tracce si assomiglino l'un l'altra) ma vado con la seguente.

Più di due mesi dopo S&G torno ad ascoltare un album, che poi il mio primo Live. At Folsom Prison di Johnny Cash; l'album è davvero molto coinvolgente, e fa apprezzare anche la bravura come "show-man" del re del Country. Moltissime delle sue tracce più famose (Jackson, I Got Stripes, Folsom Prison Blues...) che già conoscevo grazie al bellissimo film-biopic di Mangold, "Quando l'amore brucia l'anima"; fra quelle nuove (per il sottoscritto) ho preferito la seguente al primo ascolto.

Pet Sounds dei Beach Boys è un album fatto da brani molto più complessi di quello che possano apparire, dalla sonorità leggera e piacevole ma non per questo "povera". Mi è piaciuto, ma (come per Purple Rain) non so perchè mi aspettavo qualcosa in più (non saprei definirlo esattamente). La traccia che mi ha maggiormente colpito è la seguente.

A 'sto giro ho seguito un vecchio consiglio di Gaufre. Brilliant Trees di David Sylvian; decisamente non è il mio genere, troppo poco orecchiabile e particolare, ma si lascia ascoltare con grande piacere e ci sono un paio di tracce che ho adorato. Questa è senza dubbio la mia preferita.

Come promesso stavolta è il turno di ascoltare il decano Ubik. Ecco quindi The B-52's, album d'esordio dell'omonima band, che mi ha divertito un sacco (e mi ha ricordato le sonorità di Remain In Light dei Talking Heads). Molto originale la cover di "Downtown" di Petula Clark, già conoscevo "Rock Lobster", ma questa è quella che più mi ha colpito al primo ascolto.

Altro album bellissimo, direttamente dagli '80 ovvero So di Pietro Gabriele. Questo periodo mi sta regalando molte soddisfazioni Purtroppo le ultime due non mi hanno convinto, sennò per la prima volta un disco faceva en plein. La traccia di apertura è quella che mi ha convinto di più.

Dovresti sentire i suoi ultimi lavori se pensi che questo sia poco orecchiabile e particolare!
Sicuramente richiede più di un ascolto; non a caso la canzone che hai scelto è una delle più accessibili del disco, che comunque è un capolavoro.

Eheheh, lo immagino: è che io sono molto popparolo, e quindi già un album così mi sembra molto particolare et impegnativo

Comunque voglio seguire tutti i vostri consigli, pian pianino, primo perchè sicuramente ne sapete più voi del sottoscritto, secondo perchè mica è detto che non cambi idea sul mio genere musicale ideale

Un altro album, dopo quasi 3 mesi... Visto che nell'ultimo CD il buon PG faceva un duetto con quest'Artista, ho deciso di approfondirla: ecco dunque The Dreaming, l'album che il mentore Cuore (scomparso dalle scene ICS-Fattoriane da un pò ) mi ha suggerito per quanto riguarda Catia Cespuglio, detta Kate Bush. Album difficile, molto orientaleggiante nella musicalità e cacofonico a livello vocale, per cui alla fine mi ha fatto lo stesso effetto di Brilliant Trees: pur avendo apprezzato alcune tracce, nel complesso non sono riuscito a capirlo troppo. Ad un primo ascolto, questa è indubbiamente la mia preferita.

Oggi mi sono finalmente tolto la curiosità di testare il folletto islandese, alias Bjork, sulla lunghezza di un intero album. E Homogenic mi ha sorpreso alla grande: pensavo che tutte quelle astrusità musical-vocali mi annoiassero alla lunga, e invece ho ascoltato l'intero disco con grande piacere. Mi è soprattutto piaciuto l'ordine dei brani: ad esempio "Pluto", che già conoscevo e non mi esaltava, a contatto con la rilassantissima "All Is Full Of Love" crea un contrasto di grande impatto. La mia preferita, ad un primo ascolto, è però "Joga". Comunque davvero un gran bell'album

Quest'oggi si mangia piccante, rosso e caliente. Californication è un album molto orecchiabile, che scorre velocemente fra le sue numerose track. A quanto ho capito dovrebbe rappresentare la svolta "Rock melodica" del gruppo dopo le sonorità funky dei primi album; devo dire che ci sono riusciti bene, visto che moltissimi dei grandi successi commerciali dei RHCP si trovano qui. Forse alla lunga sembrano un pò ripetersi, ma la voce di Kiedis e il basso di Flea rimediano anche a questo. La mia preferita, dopo il primo ascolto, è la #2, che non conoscevo.

P.s. (Lo so che sto deviando da morire ascoltando solo '80 e '90, ma dalla prossima prometto che torno a fare il bravo e mi butto sui '60/'70 )

As I promise, questa mattina sono tornato ai 60's con Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, il diretto contendente a Pet Sounds dei BB per il titolo di Miglior Album Di Sempre. Si sente una discreta influenza di PS su SPLHCP (ad esempio She's Leaving Home mi ha ricordato molto God Only Knows, mentre l'uso dei rumori naturali in Good Morning Good Morning ricorda il finale di Caroline No) eppure ad un primo ascolto ho preferito il secondo, perchè mi è sembrato meno monocorde a livello musicale. Tornando ai Beatles, la mia preferita, ad un primo ascolto, è una delle tre che già conoscevo, e che apprezzo (forse preferisco) anche nella rendition di Joe Cocker.

E dopo i ragazzi da spiaggia e gli scarafaggi, come potevo lasciare da parte l'altro gruppone anni '60? Le pietre rotolanti e il loro Aftermath (UK) sono l'ascolto di questa mattina. Ciò che mi ha un po' colpito è che ci sono molte canzoni "tranquille", tipo Lady Jane, Out Of Time o I Am Waiting; mi ero fatto un'altra idea della musica degli Stones, e sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso. Poi, e qui chiedo agli esperti, ho sentito alcune similitudini strumentali fra Aftermath e Sgt. Pepper... come il sitar sia n Mother's Little Helper sia in Within You Without You dei Beatles: quindi anche i RS avrebbero influenzato i Beatles? Perchè di solito si sente dire tutto il contrario, e volevo capire bene la questione. Comunque, tornando a Jagger & Co., questo è un altro grande album (ad un primo ascolto l'ho preferito al Sergente Peperone) e la mia preferita è proprio la opening-track.

The Velvet Underground & Nico di Lou Reed e soci. Un album magnifico, l'ho apprezzato davvero tanto: onestamente se non avessi saputo che era del 1967 l'avrei piazzato nel pieno degli anni '70, perchè se penso agli ascolti fatti finora di questo decennio mi sembra completamente un altro mondo ("Sunday Morning", "Venus In Furs" "The Black Angel's Death Song"...). Molto interessante anche la presenza della tedesca Nico, che magari non sarà proprio un mostro di intonazione ma possiede un fascino glaciale che rende le sue 3 canzoni (soprattutto "All Tomorrow's Parties") davvero accattivanti. Ma la vera, grande genialata mi è sembrata questa traccia qua.

Anche io sono più allenato this year: con tutti i dischi che mi avete consigliato sarò più logorroico che mai. E se tu sei "Passenger-Cleptomane" preparati... Vedi il mio piccolo album-avatar? Credo che ogni 3x2 sarà chiamato in causa...

Surrealistic Pillow dei Jefferson Airplane mi ha colpito meno dei 3 precedenti dischi anni '60. Probabilmente molto ha voluto dire il fatto di averlo ascoltato dopo quel capolavoro dei Velvet, ma una cosa che mi ha colpito è il fatto che gran parte delle tracce del disco siano cantate da Balin e non dalla Slick, che a mio avviso è decisamente più valida della controparte maschile. Come mi aspettavo la canzone che mi ha colpito di più è una delle due che già conoscevo, e che probabilmente è la canzone più psichedelica dei '60.

Altro grande album dei '60 (in particolare è il terzo album di fila del 1967... Che annata!) è Disreali Gears dei Cream. Il mio primissimo ascolto "mentorato", ovvero Couldn't Stand The Weather di SRV, si muoveva sulle medesime sonorità, anche se forse un pò più blues e meno rock di questo: probabilmente ciò ha a che fare con il fatto che abbia preferito il gruppo al chitarrista singolo. Altro album che a fatica piazzerei nei '60 se non sapessi che appartiene a quel periodo, e altro album dove fatico a trovarne una migliore al primo ascolto: citazione speciale per Mother's Lament, una vera chicca a fine album, ma probabilmente quella che ho apprezzato maggiormente è la track dal titolo più impronunciabile
